As we come to the close of the 150th year since its founding, author Elizabeth C. Hunter celebrates Mitchell County's birth, its heritage, and the lives of the people who called Mitchell County home from its beginnings to today.
Join us as we take a stroll through the perils and pleasures of ordinary life and listen to the Voices of the Valley. Through personal stories and episodes from the earliest beginning of the county in 1861 you will explore life as it was and then compare these voices to those of the present day in 2011. You will explore never before seen images of the county from its earliest photographs preserved by pioneering photographers in the early 1900s. You will find historic vistas, churches, post offices, and distinctive buildings of the past like the Cloudland Hotel. Most importantly, you will find photographs and anecdotes about the people who envisioned them, worked in them, and those who lived on the lands surrounding them.
Celebrate the sesquicentennial annivesrary of Mitchell County, NC and the stories and people who have lived and throved on this land for over a century.
